The final day of this academic year is Friday 21st July.

    Year 1

Summer Term - Reach for the Stars

This term Year 1 are going to blast off into space! Our theme will begin with a stunning starter day where the children will enjoy space role play, rocket making/building and designing aliens.

In English we are being transported away from reality and into the world of fantasy! We will be using some familiar and some not so familiar texts as our inspiration for our English sessions, some include: ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy, and ‘Here Come the Aliens’ by Colin McNaughton. We’ll be creating our own fantasy characters and taking trips to the moon when writing our own fantasy stories!

As we continue with the theme, our lessons will be focusing on the moon landing and who Neil Armstrong is and why he is a significant historical figure. We will also be comparing our environment to that of the moon, to identify and similarities and differences.

The painting of Vincent Van Gogh titled ‘Starry Night’ will be our inspiration this term and will lead us into creating our own piece of artwork.
