    Year 3 Home Learning

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope that you are all okay and we would like to thank you for your hard work and resilience during this time. It has been amazing to see what the children have been up to at home and the copious amounts of effort that you are all putting in whilst learning at home. We have seen lots of artwork, research and Science experiments so far which has been fantastic.  It has brightened our days reading about how our pupils have been keeping busy and taking part in challenges such as TT Rockstars. It has made us incredibly proud as well as being something for us to look forward to each day.

We have set some ‘2Dos’ on Purple Mash which the children will be able to access when they login (login details have been stuck inside each child’s Reading Record). One of the tasks is a chapter book called ‘The Sleeping Volcano’ which allows the children to read a chapter before answering questions and completing associated writing tasks. The book can be found under ‘Volcanoes’ in the ‘Topics’ folder.  By completing and submitting these, Miss Barber and Mr Mellett will be able to leave individual feedback for the children about their work as well as suggesting changes if children would like to edit and improve their work.

We would also suggest using the free books available via ‘Oxford Owl’ such as ‘White Fang’ and ‘Black Beauty’ or via ‘Audible’ such as ‘Winnie the Pooh’, ‘Peter Rabbit’ and ‘The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood’. Both classes were each reading a class book which they thoroughly enjoyed, it is wonderful that the children share a great passion for reading and it would be fantastic if we could keep encouraging this at home. Here are some examples of books that you could read with the children or as a family.

    - Billionaire Boy by David Walliams

    • - Return to Groosham Grange by Anthony Horowitz
    • - The Midnight Gang by David Walliams
    • - Matilda by Roald Dahl
    • - The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton
    • - Buried Alive by Jacqueline Wilson
    • - Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White

Our next theme after the Easter half term break is the Egyptians. This is a fabulous and gripping topic and it is one that the children really enjoy. It is great to see the history of Egypt such as how the pyramids were made, how writing differed during this period and what happened during the gory process of mummification. Purple Mash have a range of fantastic resources that can be used if the children want to do some further home learning on the Ancient Egyptians.

If you need any support with home learning, Miss Barber (Kingfishers) and Mr Mellett (Wagtails) will be happy to help and we will aim to reply within 24 hours if you send a message to the class email address ( or

We are missing you all greatly and hope that you are keeping safe,

    The Year 3 team

Miss Barber, Mr Mellett, Mrs Gay and Mrs Golder
