    Year 4

    Year 4 Home Learning

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We would first like to say a huge thank you for all of the efforts that have been made by you and your children whilst they have been at home. We have really enjoyed seeing all of the children’s work and look forward to seeing more in the near future.

We have set some ‘2Dos’ on Purple Mash, which the children will be able to access when they login. By completing and submitting these, Miss Wright and Mrs Ryan will be able to leave individual feedback for the children about their work as well as suggesting changes if children would like to edit and improve their work.

One of the things that we are really missing is the children greeting us every day with their lovely smiles and coming into school ready to learn. We are also missing the competitive but fun environment of the classroom when challenging each other on TT Rockstars; thankfully we can still challenge the children from home. We encourage the children to keep practicing their times table as much as possible as this is a skill that will further support their learning in Maths.

In regards to reading, we suggest using the free books available on ‘The World of David Walliams’ website as well as ‘Oxford Owl’, which has some excellent books for all levels. We highly recommend ‘The World’s Worst Children’ by David Walliams. Below is a list of books that we have read as a class this year as well as ones that we were planning to read in the Summer Term. If you have access to these texts, these would be fantastic to share with your children.

    - Romans on the Rampage by Jeremy Strong

    • - The Hodgeheg by Dick King-Smith
    • - The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
    • - The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry
    • - The Vanishing Rainforest by Richard Platt

We are also extremely disappointed that we did not get to participate in our ‘Year 4 Residential Experience’ where the children would have had the opportunity to take part in memorable outdoor activities and team building exercises. It would be great to see some pictures of the children taking part in outdoor activities. In addition, as we did not get to participate in our ‘Roman Day’, Purple Mash have a range of excellent resources that could be used if the children want to do some further home learning on the topic.

If you need any support with home learning, Miss Wright (Mallards) and Mrs Ryan (Herons) will be happy to help and we will aim to reply within 24 hours if you send a message to the class email address ( or

We are missing you all greatly and hope that you are keeping safe,

    The Year 4 team
