    Year 6 Home Learning

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We would first of all like to say a huge thank you for all of the efforts that have been made by you and your children whilst they have been at home. It has been fantastic to hear from so many of you about the activities you have been away from school and the emails we have received via the class email accounts, work submitted via Purple Mash and challenges sent via TT Rockstars have made us incredibly proud as well as being genuine highlights of each day.

We have set some ‘2Dos’ on Purple Mash which the children will be able to access when they login (login details have been stuck inside each child’s planner). One of the tasks is a chapter book called ‘Bridge on Fire’ which allows the children to read a chapter before answering questions and completing assosciated writing tasks. By completing and submitting these, Mr Polson and Miss Peacock will be able to leave individual feedback for the children about their work as well as suggesting changes if children would like to edit and improve their work.

One of the things that we are really missing is sharing our class texts with the children- it was great to read a chapter at a time and leave them on a cliffhanger before reading the next chapter the following day! Below is a list of books that we have read as a class this year as well as ones that we were planning to read in the Summer Term. If you have access to these texts, these would be fantastic to share with your children. We would also suggest using the free books available via audible such as ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone’ and ‘Robinson Crusoe’.

    - Journey to Jo’Burg by Beverely Naidoo

    • - Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick
    • - Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo
    • - Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian
    • - The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd
    • - Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell

We are also extremely disappointed that we didn’t get to participate in our ‘Evacuee day’ where the children would have had the opportunity to dress up as evacuees and experience what life might have been like during World War II. Purple Mash have a range of fantastic resources that could be used if the children want to do some further home learning on the topic.

If you need any support with home learning, Miss Peacock (Cranes) and Mr Polson (Swans) will be happy to help and we will aim to reply within 24 hours if you send a message to the class email address ( or

We are missing you all greatly and hope that you are keeping safe,
